The MS Sydney to the Gong Ride is Australia’s most respected and spectacular one day community bike ride.
Held on 6 November 2016, the MS Sydney to the Gong Ride is a charity bike ride spanning between Sydney and Wollongong, a fantastic fundraising effort to support Australians living with multiple sclerosis.
Over its 34 year history it has become a Sydney’s cycling tradition famous for its atmosphere, spectacular scenery through national park and ocean road, wonderful volunteers and the generosity of its riders and supporters.
Since 1981, hundreds of thousands of cyclists have taken the challenge of riding to Wollongong and raised over $35 million dollars to support people with multiple sclerosis. Riders are encouraged to fund-raise $250 (or more!) to help change the lives of people living with MS.
The ride is capped at 10,000 cyclists and regularly sells out. The ride is conducted on public roads that are open to traffic and you can choose either the 90km Long Course or the 58km Short Course.
Along the way there are a number of Rest Stops all of which have water, first aid, toilets and bike mechanics. These are clearly signposted as you approach. The following rest stops have extra facilities available.
90km Long Course Start Site – Euston Road, St Peters
The road start, located on Euston Road, St Peters, will be an easier start for riders. It will help alleviate congestion, however we do heavily rely on riders’ patience, understanding and goodwill to commence their ride at the start line and to follow the guidance of event staff. The 90km ride starts at 6.00am with last rider leaving at 8.00am.
58km Short Course Start Site – Cooper St Reserve, Engadine
Cooper St Reserve, Engadine is the 58km Start Site, located on the corner of Cooper St and Princes Highway, Engadine. Engadine train station is located a short ride away and the start will be clearly signposted from the station. The start will have water, coffee, first aid, toilets, luggage transport and bike mechanics. The 58km ride starts at 8.00am with last rider leaving at 8.45am.
